Becoming Who I Am
I completely agree with Parker Palmer when he says that becoming who you are is more about reinforcing the way God made you. However, I also believe that it is very important to become a "better you" because we have to always try to be the best possible versions of ourselves. Not everyone experiences a concrete vocation for the directions of our lives. It can be hard to find our path when there isn't an external force steering us in a certain direction. Society is an important factor, I believe, in our vocation because it can be very accepting of mistakes, as long as we learn from them. The process of trial and error would be a lot more difficult if we lived in a harsher society. Like Palmer says, it can be harder to accept the person we truly are than to pretend to be someone we're not. Being someone you're not only puts a mask over God's vision of us. We have to be true to who we are. Being yourself is the greatest vocation a person can receive.

Sources of My Identity
My sister has definitely had a huge impact on my life. She is constant in everything I have done throughout my life. Ali is such a great person that she makes me want to be better too. She listens to me complain about everything and she shares in my joy and sadness. I don't know what my life would be if I didn't have her with me every step of the way.
The Mount has also had a big impact on my life and defined me as a person. The ideals here are so different from what I would have gotten at my public school. I am so glad that I came here because I met all of my best friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life.
Mount
Every summer my family and I used to make the long trip out to Indiana to visit my grandparents. These vacations are some of my favorite memories. Because my grandparents live so far away, we don't really get to see them so I treasure the weeks we have spent with them. These vacations were so laid back so it was always nice to take a break from life and just stay on the lake for 2 weeks every summer. I will never forget these memories.
